Arunachal: Pema Khandu, Eleven Other BJP Leaders Take Oath As Party Retains Power In North Eastern State

After the Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra administered the oath of office and secrecy to Pema Khandu of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the latter took over as the 10th Chief Minister (CM) of Arunachal Pradesh on 29 May, reports Tribune India.

Along with CM Khandu, eleven other cabinet ministers including the Deputy CM Chowna Mein took the oath. It should also be noted that while six of members have retained their position in the cabinet from previous government, two new members have also been inducted into the cabinet.

Led by Khandu, the BJP won 41 assembly seats of the total 60-member house in the assembly elections which were held alongside the Lok Sabha elections on 11 April. Meanwhile, in the opposition, the Congress party won only four seats, and the Janata Dal United in its debut elections in the state won seven seats.

The swearing in ceremony of CM Khandu and his cabinet was attended by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, his deputy CM Y Patton, Tripura CM Biplab Deb and Manipur CM N Biren Singh along with BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.
