As Anti-CAA Lobby Uses Preamble In Protests, Thackeray Govt Makes Its Reading Mandatory In Maharashtra Schools

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government has directed the schools in state to make sure that students read the Preamble to the Constitution during assembly starting this 26 January, reports Times of India.
According to the report, the state education department on Tuesday (21 January) issued a resolution, in which it said all primary and secondary schools in state must do a group reading of the Preamble during the morning assembly as prescribed in 2013.
The state education department has asked schools to ensure students read the Preamble to the Indian Constitution during assembly starting January 26, the 70th Republic Day. The students have also been asked to take an oath on Wednesday, pledging to protect the environment.
The government has now launched the “Sovereignty of the Constitution, welfare for all” programme, where the Preamble must be read in schools starting 26 January.
The resolution comes in the backdrop of anti-CAA protests, where protesters have been reading the Preamble at rallies and marches against the amended Law, which provides citizenship to persecuted minorities of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
