In the light of the worsening security situation in Tripoli, the capital city of war-torn Libya, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took to twitter on Friday (19 April 2019) and requested the friends and family of over 500 Indian citizens in Tripoli to ask them to leave immediately, reports The Economic Times.

Swaraj added that to evacuate them later will not be possible and the situation is deteriorating fast. She also highlighted the fact that flights are presently operational.

Libya has been witnessing immense military turmoil with the rebel Libyan military commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar having launched an offensive against the UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj to remove him from power and take the control of the country.

Haftar has been leading his campaign since early April 2019 to take over, adding to Libya's struggles to make a democratic transition amid the chaos which ensued after the death of Muammar Gaddafi, former dictator ruler of the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that 213 people have been killed and 1,009 others injured in the fighting between the two parties so far.
