According to a senior Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS) officer Manmohan Vaidya, from 2010, nearly 20,000 new shakhas (RSS camps) have been added, including around 6000 new shakhas between 2010 to 2014, reports Hindustan Times.

Vaidya, who is also the Joint General Secretary of the Sangh, told the Press just before the start of the three-day meeting of Akhila Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal, the highest policy-making body of RSS on Wednesday (16 October).

Vaidya also laid stress on the declining age profile of RSS members, with 60 per cent of shakhas having school and college going students and nearly 29 per cent of the shakhas constituting young businessmen and traders.

Vaidya also underscored the increasing interest of people in RSS. He informed that the number of requests to join the organisation via the ‘Join RSS’ portal on its website has quadrupled in the last 5 years.

Notably, around 28,000 requests were received on the website of RSS in 2013, which increased to 1.03 lakh in just 9 months of 2019, added Vaidya.

Vaidya also said that the organisation was now trying to undertake social change and working in over 5,000 villages where it is stressing on the merits of nuclear family and ending untouchability.
