In a major development, the Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint operation with Punjab Police yesterday (4 April) seized assault rifles and live cartridges near the India-Pakistan international border at Attari, reports Times of India.

Recoveries were made just 10 metres from the international border based on a tip-off that a cache of weapons was pushed into India in the area of border outpost Pulmoran near the border village Dhanoa on the intervening night of 3-4 April.

As per officials, the weapons were pushed into Indian territory by a Pakistani national named Bilal, who is closely associated with Sikh hardliners who are engaged in anti-India activities.

The authorities are presently engaged in further investigation, including technical analysis to decipher Bilal's network of Indian and foreign associates who were involved in the supply and movement of the consignment.

Weapons seized included a FAL 222 rifle with a magazine loaded with nine live rounds, an AKM-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with five live rounds, a 303 bore gun loaded with seven live rounds, and a 30 bore calibre China-made pistol with a magazine.
