AstraZeneca And Sputnik V Makers Give Positive Response Over Telangana Govt's Global Tender For COVID Vaccine Supply

AstraZeneca and Russian Sputnik V maker are the only two vaccine manufacturers that attended a pre-bid meeting held by the Telangana government on 26 May to procure 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, reports Economic Times.
Besides the two vaccine makers, a few trade representatives are also said to have attended the meeting. The state government has fixed 4 June as the last date for submission of the quotations.
The development comes after the state government had recently issued a global tender notice to procure vaccines from manufacturers or their agents (in case of imported vaccines).
The tender states that the bidders can also supply the doses in parts, given that the monthly supply should not be less than 1.5 million doses and that the entire order will be completed within six months from the issuance of the letter of intent (LoI).
It should be noted that while AstraZeneca’s vaccine is manufactured and sold in India by Pue-based Serum Institute of India by the name of Covishield, it markets the same vaccine on its own in Europe and other countries under the name of ‘Vaxzevria’.
