Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced a new facility that will allow candidates to withdraw their applications and help the commission save on resources spent on frivolous applications.

This facility will also enable the commission to direct its efforts towards making the examination process more efficient for serious candidates.

This facility has been first rolled out with respect to the ‘National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination (I)' for the year 2019 and application withdrawal window is open from 8 February to 14 February (2019) till 6:00 PM IST. More information on the same can be availed here.

UPSC is expected to introduce this facility for more examinations, especially the Civil Services Examination in which lakhs of aspirants across the country do not show up on the day of exam even after signing up for it.

Helping Hand To Aspirants

Earlier, it was reported that UPSC had recommended to the central government and its ministries to recruit from candidates who reached the interview stage of the civil services exams, but fail to clear it.

Every year, as many as 11 lakh candidates reportedly apply for the civil services exam. Half of these candidates appear for the preliminaries and subsequently, their number dwindles through the exam stages and eventually only 600 candidates are selected.
