Narendra Modi drew high praise and an enviable comparison from his Aussie counterpart, Anthony Albanese, who referred to the Indian Prime Minister as "The Boss."

This happened Tuesday (23 May) at a grand community event in Sydney for the Indian diaspora.

Speaking to a large audience, Albanese likened Modi's popularity to that of legendary rockstar Bruce Springsteen, affectionately called "The Boss" by his fans.

According to the Australian PM, Modi received a warmer welcome from the crowd at Qudos Bank Arena than Bruce Springsteen did on his last performance on the same stage.

He then called Modi "The Boss," which elicited a grin from the Prime Minister as well as cheers and applause from the audience.

PM Modi received a traditional welcome when the Prime Ministers arrived at the venue. Indian dancers opened the cultural event.

Speaking about the significance of Australia's relations with India, Albanese said, "It will be our sixth meeting that we've had together since I was sworn in as Prime Minister one year ago today. It shows how important the relationship between Australia and India is. India will grow to be the third-largest economy in the world. It's already the most populous country in the world. And it's an important neighbour in the Indian Ocean that we share. And that is why this is a relationship that we need to invest in."

According to Albanese, the Indian diaspora has made a significant contribution to the betterment of Australia.

He said India is an important strategic partner and the two countries share a strong bond of friendship, which is reflected in their affectionate sporting rivalry on the cricket field.

"Prime Minister Modi is a very welcome visitor to our shores," he said.
