Hailing the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-JAY) as the world's largest healthcare scheme, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi said yesterday (1 October) that over a course of five to seven years the scheme would go on to create 11 lakh job opportunities in the field of healthcare, reports The Hindu Businessline.

PM Modi said, "According to an estimate, due to demands arising out of the scheme in the next 5-7 years, around 11 lakh new jobs will be created. The enormity of the figure can be gauged by the fact that only the Railways generate employment more than this."

PM Modi also exhorted the scheme and its implementers by underscoring that 46 lakh persons have availed free treatment under the programme over the course of one year since. He remarked that the beneficiaries had been successfully pulled out of the 'darkness of disease.'

Further calling the scheme 'Garibon ki Jai' (a victory of the poor), PM Modi emphasised that if any one person’s land, house, ornaments or any other items were saved from being mortgaged or sold for medical treatment, then it marks a huge success of 'Ayushman India'.
