To contain the spread of novel-coronavirus, the Uttar Pradesh police have announced reward for those helping in tracing the Tablighi Jamaat members who are yet to report to the authorities in Azamgarh, reports the Economic Times.

It should be noted that many members of the Tablighi Jamaat have gone into hiding after attending a religious meet at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi, which has turned out to be the epicentre of coronavirus cases in the country.

Superintendent of Police Triveni Singh reportedly said, "The Jamaat members are still hiding. We have made an appeal to them that if they come up and appear before the authorities, no action will be initiated against them.”

He added, “But, if the information about them comes to us through another source, strict action will be initiated against them.”

He also announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 for informing the police about the Tablighi Jamaat members, adding that their identity will be kept a secret.

Notably, four people have tested positive for covid-19 from the city, all with links to Tablighi Jamaat congregation. Additionally, the Mubarakpur region here has been declared a hotspot, and has been sealed.

So far, the police have quarantined 33 Jamaat members staying in various mosques, madrassas and homes from the city.
