L K Advani
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Supreme Court that senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani and 12 others were part of a larger conspiracy to demolish the disputed Babri Masjid, In Ayodhya. The CBI argued for charges to be revived against the politicians.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, CBI has told the Supreme Court that Advani and others hadn’t faced conspiracy charges based on technical reasons. The CBI wants the trial to be held in a Lucknow court.
There are currently two sets of cases in the matter. One case is against BJP leaders who were on the dais at Ram Katha Kunj in Ayodhya on 6 December 1992, the day the disputed structure at the Rama janma bhoomi site was demolished. The other case is against lakhs of ‘karsevaks’ (volunteers) who were in and around the disputed structure at the time of its demolition. The proceedings will continue post lunch.
