The bail amount for United States (US)' Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin who was charged with the murder of George Floyd has been set at a million dollars, reports Times of India.
Chauvin had been filmed pressing his knee on the handcuffed Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes. On Monday (8 June) he appeared before the court for the first time since the incident which has led to massive unrest and protests across the US.
Aged 44-years and serving the Minneapolis for 19 years, Chauvin has been slapped with charges of a second-degree murder, a third-degree murder and manslaughter. If convicted, he could face incarceration for decades.
It should be noted that the bail amount of a million dollars comes attached with the conditions that Chauvin would surrender his firearms, not work in law enforcement or security in any capacity, and also not come in any contact with Floyd's family.
Without conditions, the bail amount has been set at a higher sum of $1.25 million.
