Bangladesh Army To Participate In Republic Day Parade To Celebrate 50 Years Of India's 1971 Victory Over Pakistan

In a signing of deepening thaw in the India and Bangladesh's bilateral relations, a delegation of the latter's army will take part in the Republic Day Parade on 26 January, reports Livemint.
This comes as the two nations celebrate 50th year of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which tore Pakistan into two and created the new nation of Bangladesh. The swift campaign by the Indian Army marks one of the shortest and fastest such instances in military history.
Other than the creation of Bangladesh, Indian win also saw Pakistan's then Army Chief, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi and his 93,000 Pakistani troops surrender to the Indian Army personnel and allied forces.
Coming 26 January, India will celebrate its 72nd Republic day in the honour of the historic moment when the nation fully transitioned to becoming an independent republic with its the Constitution coming into effect.
This year's celebrations will likely see a scaling down of the number of visitors to the parade so as to avoid any overcrowding and ensure social distancing in the light of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
