Video screengrab of prayer meet in Bangladesh (AFP)
A large coronavirus prayer session has been organised in southern Bangladesh which involved the participants chanting healing verses from Quran, AFP has reported.
Around 10,000 people had gathered together in public for the prayer session. The country recently reported its first coronavirus related death. Fourteen people have tested positive so far.
As per reports, the prayer session was held at an open field in the country’s Raipur town. As per the local police chief, the participants “held the Khatme Shifa prayers after dawn to free the country from the coronavirus”.
The organisers who claimed an attendance of 25,000 had reportedly conducted the prayer session without taking the required permission. Bangladesh has already shut schools and asked people to refrain from attending large gatherings.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
