In what could be seen as the party’s attempt to maintain clarity on which leaders it still has in its fold, the Congress has called upon its state units to submit details of which of its MPs who have served in the Lok Sabha or the Rajya sabha since 2004 are still with the party, reports The Economic Times.
“Please attach the highest priority to this and submit the data in Excel sheet,” the AICC said to the party’s state units.
The exercise in getting a headcount of its leaders comes even as the party has seen numerous leaders leave following its debacle in the Lok Sabha polls held this year. Even the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) general secretary in-charge of organisation K C Venugopal has highlighted this issue.
The updated list of leaders of the party may be used to finalise replacements for office bearer positions, and also to shortlist candidates for future elections.
