According to Ease of Moving Report, Bengaluru’s traffic was one of the slowest moving in the country, behind only Patna and Kolkata. Vehicles in India moved at an average speed of 15.5 km per hour, as reported by Times Of India (TOI). The report was published by Ola Mobility Institute, the outreach arm of the online transportation network company.

The report noted that travel within the city slowed down by 162 per cent during peak hours. This was attributed to the widespread use of private vehicles by passengers despite the presence of a vast public transport network in the city.

It is still unclear as to whether aggregator companies like Uber and Ola improve or worsen traffic in the cities they operate. In October, Wired, citing a study, reported that Uber and Lyft made traffic worse in San Francisco, the techno-capital of the world. However, representatives of both the companies criticised the methodology adopted by the study.
