West Bengal Coronavirus Update

Four hospitals and two nursing homes in Kolkata and its adjoining city of Howrah have closed down after doctors and patients were tested Covid-19 positive, Indian Express has reported.

Over 300 people associated with these medical centres including doctors, medical staff and patients have been quarantined.

The Park Circus SS Chatterjee Heart Clinic in Kolkata was closed after one of its patients tested positive, similarly the Charnock Hospital in the city was shut after five of its dialysis patients tested positive.

At the Howrah General Hospital two doctors, one superintendent and a janitor tested positive following the death of a 48-year-old Covid-19 positive woman. Over 200 nurses, doctor, paramedics, staff and patients were quarantined, and the place was shut.

Following this development Health Department officials have said that they are considering taking more precautions to prevent hospitals from becoming infection points.

An official was quoted as saying that they are worried about this development as the state already has a scarcity of doctors and nurses. This might in future prove difficult to give proper treatment to Covidf-19 patients in the state.
