Bengaluru Airport: Main Access To KIA To Be Closed For Two Years Owing To Expansion Work

The main access road for the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru is going to be closed from 10 June for a period of two years due to expansion work, the News Minute reports.
The traffic would be directed through the recently opened south access, which is a six lane wide road. The road runs parallel to the main access road. Vehicles coming to the airport from the city would need to turn right after Trumpet Interchange to reach the South Access Road (SAR).
Traffic heading out from the departure gates and need to follow the existing exit route from the terminal and head to P6 parking to reach the SAR. Vehicles from the arrival gate will use the existing route to reach the SAR.
The main access road, currently four-lane wide, will be expanded to a ten lane road. Further, to manage the increasing cargo traffic, the secondary road to the Cargo terminals would also be expanded to four lanes. Trumpet interchange will also be expanded from three to five lanes on both sides, without disrupting traffic.
The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) would construct the terminal 2, second runaway and other projects due to the rapid surge in passengers, cargo transportation and vehicular movement at the KIA. BIAL has invested Rs 13,000 crore for the same.
