The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is getting closer to setting up a waste-to-energy plant, the Bangalore Mirror reports.

The project has not seen much movement since an MoU was signed with French Company 3Wayste to set up the sate-of-the-art waste-to-energy plant.

According to sources, the proposed unit would be established at the solid waste management unit in Chikkanagamangala in Anekal. Though some residents had protested against the existing plant and demanded that it be shut down, the municipal authority refused to back down in the larger interest of the community.

As per the MoU, the French company would establish a new waste-to-energy plant by modifying the existing plant at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. The new building would have a 600-tonne capacity. The contract between them is valid for 30 years, after which the plant would be handed over to BBMP without any pre-conditions.

The MoU adds that the french company can sell the energy generated from the waste to the Karnataka Power Corporation at Rs 7.08 per unit.
