Bengaluru: Govt Approves Setting Up Of Road Registry - Online Portal To Track Road Construction, Maintenance In City

In a move to increase transparency in the process of construction and maintenance of road infrastructure in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led Karnataka government has approved the setting up of a road registry.
The Road Registry Portal is an initiative which will provide the public with comprehensive data on the city’s road infrastructure through an accessible unified online platform.
“It is our observation that the availability of comprehensive data in the public domain creates the necessary incentives for our civic agencies to work in a more efficient, transparent and a time bound manner,” said state Deputy CM Dr Ashwathnarayan C N.
The Road Registry Portal involves compilation of data including all information regarding the construction and maintenance processes, request for proposals, tenders issued, contractor details, maintenance arrangements, funds sanctioned, funds released, date of sanctioning of the project, expected date of completion and more.
Additionally, all data related to road infrastructure works undertaken by various agencies such as BWSSB, BESCOM, BSNL, GAIL and other civic bodies will be put up on this portal, he said.
“The registry will assign a unique ID to each road. Any activity on the road, which may be as small as filling up of pot-holes or as major as building a flyover will all be now recorded in the registry. In addition to this, all the other related works like laying of pipes, wires or electric poles, junctions, manholes, sign-boards, planting or cutting trees, will be documented in the registry,” the Deputy CM added.
There would be an online generation of job code for all the sanctioned works along the road and will be compulsorily linked with the road ID.
Emphasising on the importance of the Road Registery Portal, the Deputy CM said that it will result in better coordination between various arms of the government.
‘Today, one arm of the government completes a road and footpath while another arm digs it up the next day, with each arm blaming the other for the mess which ensues,” he said, adding that this would be prevented once the Registry is launched.
