Bengaluru-Mysuru Journey To Become Shorter With NHAI Awarding Contracts For Six-Lane Expressway

Your journey from Bengaluru to Mysuru could get shorter with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) awarding the contract to upgrade the highway to a six-lane access-controlled expressway with service lanes and bypasses.

Bhopal-based Dilip Buildcon will start construction of the two sections – 56 km from Bengaluru to Nidagatta and 61 km from Nidagatta to Mysore – at a total cost of Rs 6,213 crore on 24 March.

The highway is presently a four lane road built by the Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) that passes through the towns of Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur, Mandya, Srirangapatna, and is extremely congested, especially on weekends and holidays, resulting in the 140 km-long journey taking anywhere between three and four hours. Once the highway is finished in 24 months, the expected time of travel will be come down to less than two hours.

The entire highway will be access-controlled with service lanes on both sides. It will feature nine major bridges, 44 minor bridges, and four railway bridges. Crossings will also be provided for pedestrians along with bus shelters. The towns of Bidadi, Ramanagara and Channapatna, Madur, Mandya and Srirangapatna will feature bypasses totalling 52 km.

Three elevated corridors will also be built, including a 5 km section in the outskirts of Bengaluru, a 3 km section in Maddur, and a third one in Srirangapatna.

The construction period will be 24 months with a concession period of 17.5 years.
