Supreme Court (SC) on Monday (1 July) upheld the decision to frame murder and terrorism charges against radical Islamist organisation Popular Front of India’s Bengaluru president Asim Shariff in connection with the killing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker Rudresh in 2016 reports Times Now.

These charges were framed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which is probing the matter.

The (SC) bench headed by Justice Ajay Rasthogi and NV Ramanna upheld the earlier verdict given by the Karnataka high court and special NIA court.

The murder of Rudresh took place in broad daylight on 16 October 2016 when he was participating in a RSS parade. In its verdict the SC made it very clear that, there is enough material evidence to proceed with the case.

The NIA had also claimed that the accused Asim Shariff had hatched a conspiracy to kill two more RSS workers to dissuade people from joining the Hindu organisation. He is said to have be followed by four other PFI leaders in hatching the plan.
