Bengaluru Sees Liquor Ban In ‘Communally Sensitive Areas’ For Dasara
Liquor ban in Bengaluru.
Liquor ban has been put in place by Bengaluru police in certain areas of the city on the occsasion of Dasara.
As reported by Deccan Herald, the city police have banned the sale of liquor in North, East, North-east and Central Bengaluru. Starting from today 7am the ban will continue until 6 October, 12pm.
Liquor ban will be in place in “communally sensitive areas“ which include the KJ Halli and DJ Halli police station areas that saw riots unfold last year.
Around 113 palanquins are to be taken in procession, said the report, in RT Nagar, JC Nagar, Hebbal and DJ halli today which will see a turnout of over 60,000 people.
As per Bengaluru City Police Commisioner CH Pratap Reddy‘s orders, the ban will be imposed in the limits of the following police stations in the respective areas:
North division: RT Nagar, J C Nagar, Hebbal and Sanjaynagar
East Division: Bharatinagar, Pulakeshinagar, KG Halli, DJ Halli, Shivajinagar
North-east division: Amruthahalli, Kodigehalli
Central division: High grounds police station.
Patrolling will be undertaken to ensure no wine stores, MSIL outlets sell liquor and as the report mentions, star hotels and clubs are exempted from the ban but bars, restaurants and pubs will be closed during the ban period.
