A teacher at Mount Carmel English High School in Bengaluru has been terminated from his job after including a question in a Class 8 exam which asked students to choose whether an earthworm, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy or BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa was a farmer’s friend, reports Hindustan Times.

“The faculty member responsible for setting the question paper was dismissed from the post,” the principal of the school, Raghavendra, stated.

The question was part of the 8th class annual examination paper for the Kannada subject. In a short span of time, the question also drew viral attention on social media.

The principal claimed ignorance of the school administration that the question was going to be part of the exam. He also asserted that the question was not intended to push any political ideology or party in particular.

In Karnataka, BJP state unit president Yeddyurappa refers to himself as ‘raitha bahdnhu’, meaning farmers’ friend, and similarly, Kumaraswamy has used the term ‘farmers’ leader’ to refer to himself, in a bid to sway the votes of farmers in the state.

Moreover, Kumaraswamy’s party, the Janata Dal- Secular (JD-S), also uses the image of a female farmer on its official flag.
