The work on the first phase of the four-lane Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) has begun after multiple delays, Bangalore Mirror reports. The Ring Road project interlinks multiple towns and aims to cut down the traffic in the city. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is carrying out the work of this Ring Road as per the Bharatmala project.

This initiative will connect Dobbspet (Tumakuru Road), Doddaballapur (Hindupur Road), Devnahalli (Hyderabad Road) and Hosakote (Kolar Road). The phase one of the project costs Rs 1,350 crore and is stretched across 42 km between Dobbspet and Doddaballapur.

It includes the construction of a 2.5 km-long flyover in Doddaballapur and is slated to be completed by March 2022. The traffic that congests whilst going from Tumakaru Road to the Hyderabad Road or old Madras Road and vice versa will be diverted to the ring road upon its completion.

The traffic at the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will reduce considerably through the STRR too. More than 4,000 passenger cars pass through the ORR per hour, which is more than double as compared to other junctions like Hebbal and KR Puram.

Citizens are keenly awaiting the execution of these long-drawn projects as Avinash R, a tech professional told Bangalore Mirror, “These projects have been pending for a long time and we hope that there is no further delay. The infrastructure around Bengaluru needs to be scaled up urgently. Currently, due to lack of peripheral roads, heavy vehicles are forced to enter Bengaluru and with alternative routes, they can be diverted, helping in decongesting the traffic in Bengaluru’s outskirts.”

The STRR will also ease the traffic concerns for travelers from Chitamani, Malur, Hosakote, and Kolar commuting to the Bengaluru airport through Devanahalli.
