Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s pay-and-use public toilets are in despicable condition, with the council showing no concern for public health and hygiene. In Gandhinagar, which is located in the heart of the city, two toilets are being reportedly used for cooking. Utensils can been seen stacked inside the toilets. Apart from that, there is a gas cylinder and a stove that’s used for cooking food.
Same goes with the one at Shivananda Circle. The toilet has turned into a bedroom-kitchen with a blanket being used as a divider between the two. In Majestic too, the condition is the same with the toilets being used as a makeshift kitchen.
Toilets in Chamarajpet have boxes of condoms stored in the empty space. Deccan Herald quoted N Manjunath Prasad, Commissioner of BBMP, as saying, “I wasn’t aware that these things are happening. They are illegal. I will issue orders to get these cleared.”
There is always a person assigned to maintain the toilets, who also collects the revenue that is generated on a daily basis.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
