Bengaluru Suburban Rail To Get A Makeover: Cabinet Approves Four Long Pending Routes, To Cost Rs 23,093 Crore

Besides sanctioning a plan to construct a new metro line to Kempegowda International Airport via Hebbal and Jakkur, the Cabinet in Karnataka has also given its nod to four long-pending corridors of the Bengaluru suburban rail.
The cost of the project is said to be around Rs 23,093 crore. The four routes are namely:
Kengri to Whitefield Route: 35.47 km long route containing eleven stations like Cantonment, Baiyappanahalli, Krishnaraja Puram. Six of the stations would be underground.
KSR Bengaluru to Rajanakunte: 25 km long corridor connecting Yeshwantpur, Lottegollahalli, Kodigehalli and Yelahanka.
Nelamangala to Baiyappanahalli: 38.94 km long and connecting stations like Chikkabanavara, Yeshwantpur, Hebbal, Banaswadi.
Hillagere to Baiyappanahalli: 63.3 long corridor including stops like Yelahanka, Devanahalli, the longest route out of the four.
The Hindu quoted Minister for Cooperation Bandeppa Kashempur as saying, “The investment in corridors would be in the ratio of 20 per cent by the central government, 20 per cent by the State government and remaining would be borrowed either from multilateral or domestic financial institutions.”
