In a big development in the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case being heard in the Supreme Court, the Sunni Wakf Board is willing to give up its claim on the disputed site, CNN News18 has reported.

The Wakf board is said to have made a proposal to the mediation panel to convey their decision to give up their claim on the disputed land.

In exchange they seek that the government take over the maintenance of 22 Ayodhya mosques and make the places of religious worship act 1991 watertight.

As per media reports, a petition for settlement has been filed. It is claimed that the Sunni Wakf Board which is one of the prime litigants in the matter has stated that it does not wish to pursue its appeals any longer.

This is development is expected to go a long way in resolving the matter but the question of five other Muslim parties remains. The Sunni Wakf board though is said to be the most important party of the lot.
