Big Development Push In UP Budget: Upgradation Of Roads, Hospitals; Varanasi, Ayodhaya Beautification Announced

Terming its latest 2019-20 budget as 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas' budget, Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh announced a slew of infrastructure and social security measures for all sections of the society, reports Times Of India (TOI).

The Rs 4.79 lakh crore budget, presented by state Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal, allocated Rs 2,579 crore under the Old Age and Farmers' Pension Scheme. It also fulfilled its election promise by providing Rs 50 crore for Wi-Fi facility in all the colleges and universities.

Rs 908 crore has been set aside to upgrade district hospitals into medical colleges in UP. Out of this, "Rs 50 crore has been proposed in the budget to set up the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University in Lucknow. Similarly, Rs 10 crore has been proposed for setting up an Ayush University in the state," said Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal.

For the development of roads under the Public Works Department (PWD), the budget has provided Rs 13,135 crore. A further Rs 2,100 crore will be used for the construction of bridges. Also, Rs 6,240 crore has been set aside for the financial year 2019-20 under the Pradhanmantri Avas Yojna.


Indic Allocations

To promote religious tourism, the government will spend Rs 207 crore for the development and beautification of the corridor from Ganga ghat to Kashi Vishwanath temple. Also, a provision for Rs 101 crore has been made for the development of prominent tourist places in Ayodhya and Rs 125 crore for Braj teerth.

In what is considered to be the largest grant by a state government to a research centre in the past decade, UP budget has allocated Rs 16 crore to develop Vedic Vigyan Cente at Banaras Hindu University.
