Applying for a learner’s licence, driving licence (DL) and vehicle registration certificate (RC) will now get simpler for the people of Delhi as all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Delhi have gone online from today (1 October), reported Financial Express.

This move will be a huge relief for citizens of the national capital as it will reduce the long waiting hours and will simplify the lengthy processes of making documents at RTOs.

Many states in India including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana and Goa have an online process for application of driving licence but Delhi will be the only state where all the RTOs have become online.

Kailash Gahlot, Transport Minister of Delhi, has declared in August 2018 that all the 13 RTOs of Delhi will be converted to e-RTOs and 11 services pertaining to transport that are being provided by the RTOs will be available online on the website of the transport department.

Transport Department of Delhi, from now onwards, will not accept any manual application process which means that it will not accept application on paper and will only accept payment via electronic transactions which will help greatly in curbing of corruption in the process.

Like in the passport office, after applying online for the services provided by the RTOs, people will be given a particular time slot to visit the RTO office.

This will benefit both common citizens and employees of the RTOs. Common citizens will save a lot of time and employees of RTOs will have less workload.
