Bihar: IAF Garud Commandos Pay For Marriage Of Martyred Commando’s Sister, Perform Brother’s Duties In The Ceremony

The Garud commando martyred in Kashmir’s Bandipora, Jyoti Prakash Nirala, couldn’t see his beloved sister’s wedding, but fellow Jawans made sure that the family feels his presence at the occasion.
On her wedding day, Nirala’s sister’s Shashikala had 100 brothers” as a team of Air Force Garud commandos visited their village in Bihar. According to the local traditions, the jawans laid out their hands for the bride to walk over for her vidai, reports Times Now.
Nirala was the sole earning member of the family, as well as only brother to four sisters. The family was finding it difficult to ensure enough funds for the marriage of Nirala's sister. It is then that the Garud commandos came forward to help their colleague.
It has been reported that each commando in the force contributed Rs 500 each and in this way, nearly Rs 5 lakhs were collected. The funds were then used to organise the marriage of Nirala's sister.
Nirala’s father Tej Narayan Singh expressed his gratitude to the team and said that all the visiting Jawans were like his own son. The participation of the Indian Air Force Garud commandos in all the function-related worked sparked emotions.
A resident of the Badladih village, Rohtas district, Bihar, Nirala joined the force in 2005. On 18 November, 2017, based on specific intelligence, he was a part of an offensive was launched in Chanderger village of Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir. Nirala had positioned himself close to the approach of the terrorist hideout, cutting off all escape routes.
Displaying immense acumen, Nirala gunned down two category 'A' terrorists and injured two others as the six terrorists hiding inside rushed out. In the process, he was hit by a volley of small arms fire. Despite being critically injured, he continued retaliatory fire, subsequently succumbing to injuries.
He was awarded Ashok Chakra Republic Day by President Ram Nath Kovind. He is the first airman to receive the award for ground combat and only the third one to receive it overall after Suhas Biswas and Rakesh Sharma.
