In an unusual instance of domestic strife between a couple from Bihar , a woman Noori Fatma has alleged that her husband Imran Mustafa gave her triple talaq after she rejected his demand of becoming a ‘modern woman’ and doing things like consuming alcohol, going to parties at night and wearing short clothes, reports PTI.
After their marriage in 2015, the couple had moved to Delhi. In that city, Mustafa allegedly asked her to become like other girls who lived there by doing the same activities which they did.
Fatma has now approached the Bihar State Commission for Women and they have registered a complaint. A notice has been communicated to her husband in the matter.
The practice of triple talaq, through which a ban can divorce his wife in Islam just by saying the word talaq thrice, was banned recently through the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Act, 2019.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
