Bihar Tops GDP Growth In FY 2018-19; AP, Gujarat Follow: CRISIL Report

Bihar tops in the GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) rankings for the year 2017-18, Money Control reports citing a Crisil report. Bihar saw an 11.3 per cent GSDP growth for fiscal 2018. In 2017, it was in the eight ranks and had a 9.9 per cent GSDP growth.

A close second is the state of Andhra Pradesh, whose GSDP for the year 2018 was 11.2 per cent. And in the third place, stands Gujarat with 11.1 per cent. The report also stated that the worst performing states were, Jharkhand, Kerala, and Punjab.

Madhya Pradesh had been on the top of the ladder last year with 14 per cent, but it dropped to 7.3 per cent for the year 2018. "Madhya Pradesh, which was among the top three earlier, slid in fiscal 2018, due to a slowdown in GSDP growth and slippage on fiscal deficit," as found in the Crisil report.

Around 12 out of 17 states saw an increase in fiscal in 2018, but mostly the growth did not equate to job creation, GSDP has come chiefly from the sectors which are less job-intensive.

The reports that which were by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy revealed that there was a loss of about 1.1 crores of jobs in 2018. It mentioned, "Growth has not quite been conducive to job creation in a majority of the states
