The Bharatiya Janata Party has planned a nationwide protest on 5 May against the violence unleashed by Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal just after its victory in the elections, reports Hindustan Times.

Announcing the dharna against TMC's violence in the state, BJP through its Twitter handle also said that the protest will be held following all the COVID-19 protocols across all organisational mandals of the party.

The party also announced that its national president JP Nadda will be visiting the state from 4-5 May for two days during which he will be meeting with the families of its affected karyakartas.

BJP IT cell's chief Amit Malviya also said, "The BJP now has 18 MPs and 77 MLAs in West Bengal. We will respond in adequate measure within the constitutional framework. National President’s visit reaffirms the party’s unwavering commitment towards our karyakartas at a crucial time like this."

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the state government to file a report over the post-election violence. Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has also summoned the state's Director General of Police (DGP) over the 'alarming' law and order situation.
