BJP Approaches EC Against Poll Violence In West Bengal, Demands Deployment Of Central Forces In All Polling Booths

A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Vijay Goel along with party's media in-charge Anil Baluni approached the Election Commission (EC) on Monday (29 April 2019) complaining that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had 'hijacked democracy' in West Bengal and demanded the deployment of central forces in all polling booths in the state, reports Hindu BusinessLine.
The development took place in the light of heightened situation between BJP and TMC in the state, after clashes erupted between the workers of the two parties outside a booth in Asansol's Barabani and vandalism of the vehicle of Union Minister and sitting BJP Member of Parliament (MP) Babul Supriyo.
“The ruling Trinamool Congress workers have hijacked democracy in the state and are indulging in violence. They are being supported by the local machinery and we demand deployment of central forces in all polling booths in the state,” said Naqvi after meeting with the poll panel officials.
The senior BJP leader also expressed concern over 'no action' been taken against Congress party president Rahul Gandhi for his baseless allegations against BJP chief Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said a memorandum in this regard has been submitted to the EC.
