The main hurdle that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government faced in passing important bills in its first term from 2014-19 was lack of numbers in the Rajya Sabha but that is set to change in its second term as the NDA is likely to get majority seats in the Upper House of the parliament by 2020 end.

The NDA is expected to get majority in the Rajya Sabha by November next year. The BJP-led alliance has 102 members in Rajya Sabha at present while the Congress-led UPA has 65 members. The non-aligned parties have 73 seats in the Rajya Sabha, where support of 123 is needed to cross the half-way mark, reports Times of India.

The NDA will have to win the three assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand this year to increase its prospects of reaching the magic mark of 123 in the Rajya Sabha by next year.
