Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (27 May) said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), even after facing political untouchability and political violence, is a truly democratic party and cares about the democracy even when the party is in power, reports NDTV.
While addressing a gathering at Varanasi, the Prime Minister said that the victory that the party received in the recently concluded general elections came at a cost. today to thank the people after the party's mammoth victory in the national elections.
"Why are our workers killed or attacked in Kashmir, Kerala or Bengal? It is shameful and anti-democratic... But today, in the political canvas of the nation, if there is one party that lives and breathes democracy, it is the BJP," he added.
The Prime Minister is in his constituency Varanasi to thank the party workers and the people of the ancient city for re-electing him.
