Avtar Singh Bhadana.
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate from the Jewar assembly constituency in western Uttar Pradesh, Avtar Singh Bhadana, withdrew his candidature today (20 January), according to reports. Bhadana was earlier in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was an MLA from the Meerapur assembly constituency in Muzaffarnagar district.
He had joined the RLD on 13 January and was declared the party's candidate from Jewar.
Today, Bhadana's legal counsel addressed the media in Greater Noida and as per this video said that since Bhadana had tested positive for Covid, he was withdrawing his candidature in public interest.
The RLD, meanwhile, has declared Indraveer Bhati to be its new candidate from Jewar.
In the 2017 elections, BJP's Dhirendra Singh was elected from this constituency after receiving around 48 per cent of the total votes polled.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
