A survey conducted by Times Now and VMR has concluded that the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) will win at least 202 out of the 403 total seats in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. BJP, with 34 per cent vote share, will emerge as the single largest party, the survey says.

The Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, formed to prevent BJP from coming to power in the state, will manage to win only 147 seats, the survey says. The SP-Congress duo will attract little over 31 per cent vote share, down 10 per cent from 2012 vote shares of both parties put together. The number is far from the magical digit of majority in the assembly and 105 seats less than the combined strength of the two parties in 2012.

Bahujan Samaj Party, as other surveys have also predicted, will not benefit from the anti-incumbency. The party, this survey says, will win more than 47 seats with a vote share of 24 per cent. BSP supremo Mayawati has fielded over 100 Muslim candidates. Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal is expected to win seven seats with 11 per cent vote share.

According to the survey, over 63.4 per cent people in the state support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation move. Face of the SP-Congress alliance, Akhilesh Yadav, is the most popular chief ministerial candidate in the state.
