Covered up statue
A bunch of unruly #BlackLivesMatter protesters in Washington DC have vandalised a statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Indian Embassy. An investigation into the matter has been launched by the United States Park Police.
As per reports, the protesters had sprayed profanities on the statue, following which it was covered up and a complaint was lodged with the cops by Indian embassy officials.
Besides carrying out an investigation in an effort to nab the culprits, authorities are also cleaning up the site.
The US Ambassador to India Ken Juster while taking cognisance of the matter has tendered an apology, “So sorry to see the desecration of the Gandhi statue in Washington, DC. Please accept our sincere apologies”.
Unruly members of the protests in the US have also desecrated various other historic monuments like Lincoln Memorial and St John’s Church.
