Boost To Indian Navy: Six Submarines To Be Built Under Make In India P75(I) Project In Strategic Partnership

Moving with the plan to modernise its navy, India has issued the Expression of Interest (EoI) seeking application from the ship-building companies for the construction of six P 75(I) Submarines, reports Zee News.
The 45,000 crore project under the “Make in India” programme of the Narendra Modi government is second such initiative being undertaken through the latest Strategic Partnership (SP) Model, the first being the procurement of 111 Naval Utility Helicopters (NUH).
With the project, the government intends to make the country a global hub for the design and production of under-water vessels such as the submarines.
The shortlisted companies for the project are supposed to set up dedicated manufacturing lines for the six submarines in India. After the first six submarines are built in India, the Navy can exercise the option of manufacturing six more warships under P 75 (I).
The Indian Navy currently has 16 active submarines, with INS Arihant, INS Chakra and INS Kalvari being the latest submarines with the most advanced technology. INS Arihant, which can carry nuclear missiles that can be fired under the sea, completes India’s nuclear triad.
