United States (US) President Donald Trump is expected to visit India for the first time from 24-26 February for a trip which is still to be formally announced, reports Times of India.

The first ever visit of President Trump to India is likely to witness the two sides sign agreement on a trade deal. The visit comes months after Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi had visited the US and participated in a mega rally in Houston, Texas, which was attended by President Trump and thousands of Indian Americans.

Prior to the upcoming visit of President Trump to India, former president of the US Barack Obama had visited India back in 2015 as a chief guest of the Republic Day parade on an invitation from Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

According to the report, Trump’s visit will be used by both the countries to advance their strategic and economic ties which have made strides in recent years.

Meanwhile, India has appointed former Indian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu as its new envoy to the United States. Sandhu replaced Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who took charge as the new foreign secretary of India today (29 January).
