Bharat Petroleum
In a major fillip for the Kerala Government’s capacity to deal with the fresh surge in COVID-19 cases in the State, state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has set up a 1,500-bed medical facility in collaboration with Kochi’s administration, reports Indian Express.
It should be noted that all 1,500 beds at the facility are equipped with direct oxygen support from BPCL’s Kochi Refinery. The oxygen is being supplied to the facility through a dedicated kilometre long stainless steel pipeline. The refinery has the capacity to generate as much as 12 tonnes of gaseous oxygen per day.
Furthermore, BPCL is also supplying free power and water to the said facility. Meanwhile, Kerala’s Health Department would deploy 480 staff, including 130 doctors and 240 nurses to run the facility.
Also, as per Sanjay Khanna who is the executive director of BPCL’s Kochi Refinery, the company is also setting up oxygen plants at Kerala’s Government hospitals.
BPCL is also setting up a bottling compressor at the refinery which will help in oxygen supply through cylinders.
