A Hyderabad Metro train at a depot (L&T HMRL)
Less than a year after flag off, the Hyderabad metro is reported to be grappling under some technical glitches which is resulting in service disruptions, reports The Times of India.
While there had been issues post launch, however, successive breakdowns have led people to raise doubts over the built quality and engineering design of the Hyderabad metro services.
The breakdown occurred due to the snapping of over-head wire on 14 October reportedly left hundreds of commuters using the Miyapur-Moosapet metro line stranded for almost three hours, whereas another technical glitch brought a metro service to grinding halt near Prakash Nagar on 4 November.
The Metro Rail authorities blamed heavy pollution near Uppal for the latest breakdown, whereas, urban planning experts opined that the elevated model of construction is causing problems to metro as it is exposed to pollution, birds and other elements compared to the underground model.
However, Hyderabad Metro rail officials have maintained that their services are better and technical failures are much less compared to other cities. They have also assured of initiating measures to rectify the technical issues pertaining to the metro.
