Broadband, 2G Mobile Internet Services To Be Restored Across Jammu And Kashmir From Today

In a major development towards bringing normalcy in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the UT's administration has decided to restore the broadband and 2G mobile internet services from today (25 January), reports Indian Express.
However, restrictions on social media networks will continue, at least until 31 January.
The latest development comes after the administration of the UT had decided to restore broadband internet for smooth functioning of essential services in institutions like hospitals on 15 January.
The development comes as huge relief for the local population as the internet facilities were snapped in Kashmir valley since August 2019 when the Parliament of India had decided to de-operationalise the Article 370 of the Constitution and to bifurcate the erstwhile state into two separate UTs of J&K and Ladakh.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the access to the internet would remain restrained as the masses would only be able to surf 301 whitelisted websites for the time being. These websites include websites of banks, news websites, educational institutions and universities and Wikipedia among several others.
