Former journalist and Congress candidate from Maharajganj, Supriya Srinate is staring at a huge defeat from the constituency. As per the latest EC data, Srinate is trailing at third place behind the BJP and SP candidates.
BJP’s Pankaj Choudhary is leading the seat with over 2.2 lakh votes. Following him is the SP candidate Akhilesh, who got around 1.13 lakh polls while Srinate is at the distant third with just over 18,000 votes.
The Congress candidate had resigned from the position of executive editor from the news channel ET Now for contesting the LS elections from Maharajganj. She replaced the Congress’s previously announced candidate for the constituency, Tanushree Tripathi, who is the daughter of murder-convicted politician Amarmani Tripathi.
Late father of Supriya Shrinate, Congress politician Harsh Vardhan, had been elected from the same constituency two times.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
