BJP MP Yogi Adityanath

In an interview with The Indian Express, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogi Adityanath has said that his party has corrected the imbalance created by the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance and the Bahujan Samaj Party by fielding a large number of Muslim candidates in the ongoing elections in Uttar Pradesh.

When asked why the BJP did not field any Muslim faces in the elections, he said that “winnability was the only criterion” and the move shouldn’t bee seen as “anti-Muslim. The fact is that the SP and the BSP created so much imbalance that we only corrected the imbalance,” he has been quoted as saying. Adityanath said that SP and BSP are depending solely on Muslims and have been busy appeasing the community.

Talking about the chief ministerial candidate, he said that “a person who thinks for every caste and community” should be given the opportunity. “I am associated with the party, the ideology. I am working for it. I am not a claimant to any post,” he added.

On the question of safety of Muslims and other minorities under BJP rule, he said that these communities will be “totally safe” if his party forms the government.

“They should follow Ashfaqullah Khan and Abdul Hamid and A P J Abdul Kalam. They must discourage their community from following ISIS and praising Pakistan. They are most safe there. All policies of the Centre are being implemented without discrimination. It will be the same in UP,” he said.
