The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has rubbished reports appearing in some newspapers which claimed that it is planning to make foreign language courses compulsory for Chartered Accountants (CA) and students, Tax Scan has reported.

Recently, ICAI had tied up with various institutions to promote foreign language courses for its member CAs and students, to help them overcome language barrier when posted abroad.

These courses were offered in languages like French, Spanish and German to aid CAs who wish to explore careers in countries where these languages are predominantly spoken. It would also come handy for CAs in India, in case of dealing with companies based out of Germany, France and Spain.

This had purportedly led some local newspapers to claim that ICAI was actually planning on making such courses compulsory for its CAs, resulting in confusion.

“ICAI has not taken any decision to make the foreign language course mandatory for its members and students as published in some local newspapers. This is for your information”, ICAI thus clarified in a statement.
