Bombay High Court (Wikipedia)
The Bombay High Court has held that parents are obligated to spend money on the education of their children, reports Indian Express.
The court also observed that legally challenging such financial transactions shows deterioration in social values.
The court was setting aside a case against a man, accused by his father, of not repaying a sum of Rs 29 lakh that he had paid for his education in the US.
The high court, however, quashed the magistrate court order after the son pleaded that he would repay Rs 15 lakh to his father in three months and take care of him.
The father, in 2015, had filed a suit, accusing his son of criminal breach of trust and cheating on the ground that the son had borrowed money for his education in the US, but failed to return the money. The father had also furnished a letter dated 27 June, 2008, written by his son, promising to repay the entire cost along with interest at 10.5 per cent.
