The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday (2 March) arrested six individuals in connection with the murder of BJP worker Yogeeshgouda Goudar, Times of India has reported.
A 26-year-old Gowda who was a member of the Dharwad zilla panchayat was murdered in June 2016 in Dharwad by criminals who threw chilli powder in his face. Those arrested by the CBI have been identified as Nazeer Ahmed, Shahnawaz, Ashwath, Nutan, Sunil and Dinesh.
The case was being initially handled by by the state police and the CID which arrested an individual named Basavaraj Mutagi and others on charges of murdering Gowda. Unsatisfied with the probe the victim’s brother had demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI.
While the erstwhile Congress-JD(S) government refused to do so, the BJP gave its nod after ascending to power. Subsequently the Supreme Court gave its approval for a CBI probe 10 days ago.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
